7 Reasons to Pray 24-7

Creativity is an expression of the divine in our beings.

God made us in His image. Creativity is evidence of that.

Prayer is us touching the Creator.

So we pray and we create and in creating we pray.

Parkwood Gardens Church in Guelph, Ontario is having a week of 24-7 prayer starting Monday June 15 at 1pm and ending at 1pm Sunday June 21. This means that people will sign up for a one hour prayer shift (or some sign up for multiple, personally I love the quiet overnight hours) and then they will be a part of a chain of unbroken prayer in a room with a dozen or so creative prayer stations.

24 hours a day from Monday to the following Sunday:

*God’s praises will be spoken,

*prayer requests will be lifted up,

*praise reports will be shared

*prayers will be done in all kinds of creative ways with music, art, meditation, reading, singing, touch, scent and God’s word.

*people will be drawn into the presence of their Father in heaven.

1. God is worthy of our praise. Omnipotent, omnipresent, omniscient, so very omni! God is unquestionably amazing and to quote a wise man, “our God is an awesome God”

2. Many people have trouble praying for 5 or 10 minutes. But in a prayer room with a variety of ways to pray, repeatedly people report the hour or hours flew by.

3. Lives are changed. Prayer connects us to a loving God. Connecting with God changes lives.

4. It’s fun. Yes, prayer is fun. I look forward to prayer rooms so I can once again express/experience/enjoy special time with God in that way.

5. The Holy Spirit is evident in the dedicated prayer space. I’m not saying the Spirit isn’t evident elsewhere or indwelling us as believers. I know the Spirit is with us. But there is something so Spirit-filled about a room dedicated to and inhabited by the prayers of God’s people. A pastor friend of mine came out of his first time in the prayer room and said, “I’ve never experienced a time or a space like that.”

7.  We are joining in prayer with the Church. We, as a people have a special identity and it’s one we only have when we join together. Be the Church in prayer.
