Movies & God

For me, going to the movies can be a very God-touched experience. Sometimes the film you least expect can be touched by God in my experience.

A character’s struggle, triumph, growth or a story of good vs. evil can say a lot to faith. And there are times when you just have to laugh at the stuff of life and let the pressure off. I think God likes a good laugh. I guarantee He has lots of them. Sometimes a line in a movie inspires me and renews connection with God.

I think it has a lot to do with us being a very story oriented people. We connect with stories.

But then God speaks to us in all kinds of ways and in all kinds of circumstances. He uses the Bible, the testimony of believers, the creation around us, people’s stories. He uses art and creativity to speak to the heart and soul He has put within us. The things that make us nod in agreement and see the hand of God.

Here’s some that have spoken to me at one time or another. And for the disclaimer: These are not “Christian” movies (whatever that means). I am not rating or vouching for these films.

Perks of Being a Wallflower

The Princess Bride (still to me the quinntessential youth group movie)

Les Miserables (2013 edition)

The Passion of the Christ

The Incredibles

The Way

The Hobbit part 1(and I anticipate the next two parts as well)

The Lord of the Rings Trilogy

Good Will Hunting

The Blindside

Dead Poet’s Society

What about you?

What movie or movies have spoken to you in your journey with Christ?
